MURPH: App for alerting and deployment management

If an army pilot crashes during a mission, every second counts. The rescue chain must function quickly and efficiently in order to save the lives of soldiers. Until now, the relevant emergency services have been alerted by telephone and radio, there are several transmission and distribution points and a complex, analog map navigation system to the scene of the accident.  In the hustle and bustle of operations, this silent mail system can quickly lead to errors or loss of information. It also costs time, which is not available in the event of an accident with casualties. And if additional special forces need to be alerted, the silent post system starts all over again.

This is exactly where our MURPH innovation project comes in. The web-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) alerting system in the form of an app is designed to simplify and speed up the alerting and deployment management of emergency service groups.  In the event of emergency scenarios such as those already outlined, the emergency services are responsible for coordinating the first and subsequent emergency services. In order for this to function smoothly, the emergency services must immediately receive all relevant information about the emergency situation. This is the only way they can provide the best possible skills, resources and materials at the scene as quickly as possible.

Idea for the innovation project comes from the troops

The app is designed to ensure this through various features: with the help of an extremely high triggering accuracy of the emergency system, which also simultaneously provides all relevant information and the exact coordinates of the accident location via push message. The app also offers customization options to meet local requirements. The idea came from a Bundeswehr intrapreneur from transport helicopter regiment 10 "Lüneburger Heide" from Faßberg. We were impressed by the dual-use approach and the potential scope of the innovation project. The solution could be transferred to almost all alerting scenarios in the Bundeswehr.  The freely available app is already being used successfully by the airport fire department at Düsseldorf Airport. We are currently testing the system with the army pilots from Faßberg, who support the Bundeswehr's combat troops with troop and supply transports. Hence the name of the innovation project: Murph stands for: mobile - urgent - rescue - project - "heer" (army).
