With our “EvE” app, Bundeswehr pioneers can explore more bridges in less time. The data collected is easily transmitted to the command post and SITAWARE, the Bundeswehr's command information system - as a second field test has shown. This makes an important contribution to situational awareness - one of the core tasks of the engineer force.
Our innovation project is important because the current status of thousands of bridges in Germany is currently not available centrally. If heavy vehicles use routes off the main traffic routes on highways or federal highways, it becomes difficult to retrieve the data. The classic pioneer reconnaissance with notes and paper takes time and ties up resources that are not available in an emergency. As a NATO hub, Germany must be able to deploy hundreds of thousands of soldiers and equipment at short notice.
Thanks to the idea of our Bundeswehr intrapreneur, Tino-Ingo Richter, specialist service officer at the Army Engineer School in Ingolstadt, the engineers can now enter data on the bridge's navigability, load-bearing capacity and dimensions directly into the EvE app and transmit their assessment of the bridge's condition to the command post and SITAWARE.
In this way, we are making important geodata available for our mission of national and alliance defense and helping to create a uniform and reliable database.
