After a brief introduction to the history of the CIHBw by our director Sven Weizenegger, the focus was on current innovation projects, including in the area of AI-supported software development for drones and improving situational awareness - presented by our innovation managers. As CIHBw, we focus on the needs of the armed forces in a user-centered manner. During a demonstration of our innovation project “Drone defense of all troops”, the minister was able to see the impact of our work for himself. The solution allows soldiers to practice shooting down drones at close range. A scenario that is already a bitter reality every day in the war in Ukraine.
By focusing on national and alliance defense, we are playing an active part in making the Bundeswehr fit for war.
Pistorius was impressed by the CIHBw innovative strength and user-centered approach.
“The Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub is a unique institution. No other department has an innovation unit like this. The projects presented show its value very impressively. The approach of finding solutions to problems that come from the troops has proven its worth. Your success rate proves you right,” said the Minister, addressing the employees of the CIHBw.
Pistorius emphasized that the CIHBw fulfills another important task: “They question existing processes and tickle the system.”
Sven Weizenegger summed up the visit very positively: “For me and the entire CIHBw team, the Minister of Defense's visit is a great honour. We are perceived at the highest level as a change agent for the Bundeswehr, and our innovation projects are trend-setting for the troops.”
It will not be his last visit to the CIHBw, explained Pistorius. In view of current challenges and ever shorter development cycles, the CIHBw is needed. Further funding would also have to be provided for this, as the hub would not be able to cope with the current budget in the long term, said the minister.
