What has to happen if the NATO alliance is actually triggered was practiced by NATO with the large-scale manoeuvre Steadfast Defender 2024 in Europe. In this scenario, the NATO alliance is attacked by an aggressor in Europe. Quadriga 2024 is the German contribution to the maneuver and the largest exercise by German land forces since the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
In this scenario, ACOP was deployed in mid-May 2024 as part of the NATO exercise Grand Quadriga in Lithuania to discuss deep operations. Deep operations are planned and carried out approx. 30-50 km below the enemy's surface in order to reconnoitre, delay and/or exploit them. For example, the enemy's supply of ammunition, fuel, etc. can be slowed down or stopped for a certain period of time. This gives your own forces a window of opportunity to potentially gain an advantage in the immediate battle. With ACOP, the enemy area could be displayed digitally and true to scale in 3D using mixed reality glasses. Map and scale changes from the division room to the battalion room and down to the platoon level were also carried out in 3D. These functions in particular met with a very positive response from the Lithuanian and Dutch participants, as they made it possible to precisely assess the terrain in terms of the visibility of both friendly and enemy forces.
