Tactical Air Control and Communication App (TACC App)

Mastering air combat coordination: our "Tactical Air Control and Communication App" (TACC App)

The challenge of efficiently coordinating hundreds of aircraft, as in the AirDefender23 exercise, requires the highest level of training for fighter control officers. Our latest innovation project, the "Tactical Air Control and Communication App" (TACC App), serves as an essential tool to bring future operational command officers up to this high level. With the TACC app, parts of the learning content can be trained practically and flexibly on mobile devices.

At the heart of our innovation project is a market-ready software solution that uses machine learning. This makes it possible to simulate complex interception scenarios in combination with radiotelephony on a tablet outside of the stationary simulators. This allows fighter control officers to apply and improve their knowledge outside of duty.

Our innovation: machine learning-based software solution

Previously, the teaching of training content was limited exclusively to stationary simulators, which also required 1:1 supervision by trainers. A major advantage of the TACC app is that it enables individual adaptation of the training units. The software gives trainers a direct insight into the progress and performance level of the trainees.

The future of air force training

Thanks to more efficient and flexible methods, the TACC app can not only improve the quality of training, but also contribute to a higher success rate in less time. As trainees have the opportunity to learn independently, there is more time for in-depth study of other training content. Radiotelephony in particular, with its complex aviation language, can be significantly improved by the TACC app.

The TACC app is currently being tested in operational command area 2 in Erndtebrück. In the future, it could also be used in the Air Force's operational command service, for training JTACs, for aircraft pilots and for general radio training.

The Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub, which is responsible for promoting digital innovations, actively supports the development and implementation of such technologies. Our aim is to establish the innovation project in close cooperation with the Bundeswehr in the long term. We are proud to be able to make a contribution to increasing the efficiency, qualification and future viability of training within the Bundeswehr.
