Failed combat and patrol vehicles - the Bundeswehr knows a thing or two about repairing its equipment. The Bundeswehr's Mechatronics Center handles particularly complicated cases. And this is exactly what the current Innovation Project of the Month of the Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub is all about.
At the Bundeswehr Mechatronics Center in Jülich, Bundeswehr vehicles are repaired, e.g. in the event of major damage or following a deployment. The vehicles are dismantled into up to ten different assemblies, overhauled and assembled. All parts are stored on the entire site of the mechatronics center. The area is equivalent to about 13 football pitches. Searching for and finding individual assemblies during assembly and overhaul often costs the mechanics a lot of time and prevents them from working as productively as possible.
Together with the Bundeswehr Logistics Center, the Cyber Innovation Hub has implemented the idea of an interactive repair hall for "everyone" and linked it to the "Easy Tracking" project. This involves tracking objects digitally. The innovation project Baugruppentracking has evolved from this. By combining these two innovations, the assemblies can be automatically localized in a mobile app. This means that the mechanics know immediately where the individual components are located and can share this knowledge with colleagues. This has greatly increased productivity in the plant. Dead times within processes are digitally visible thanks to the position data. And not only the mechanics involved, but also the management benefits from tracking the assemblies. This is because the solution also increases the transparency of processing times, allowing potential for improvement to be identified.
