The digital innovation competition
Innovative ideas that make the Bundeswehr smarter don't always come from the outside. The Bundeswehr itself is full of highly capable, motivated individuals keen to turn their ideas into reality.
That is why we launched the Smart Solutions Challenge: in partnership with the Bundeswehr universities in Munich and Hamburg, we called for new ideas for digital innovations.
As many as 83 teams submitted projects; eleven of them made it into the final round. At the end of the competition, our jury chose the top three submissions: a project about cybersecurity, a project about political education, and a recruitment app.

Fostering cultural change from within
The three best projects are currently being implemented. All three project teams are working with the Cyber Innovation Hub to turn their ideas into reality. But the other teams are winners, too: the innovation challenge has introduced them to the methods of agile work, helped them work on their presentation skills and got them in contact with like-minded individuals.
We are turning soldiers and civilian employees of our armed forces into pioneers of innovation. They independently identify problems and develop solutions with support from the Cyber Innovation Hub. This is how we support intrapreneurs in the Bundeswehr and foster cultural change from within.
