The center was opened on Wednesday afternoon by Lieutenant General Michael Vetter, Head of the Cyber and Information Technology Department at the Federal Ministry of Defence, and Sven Weizenegger, Head of the CIHBw. Vice Admiral Dr. Thomas Daum, Inspector of Cyber and Information Space, was also a guest at the CIHBw during the ceremony.

The Bundeswehr Center for Intrapreneurship is an important step in the further development of innovation work in the German armed forces. On the one hand, it aims to provide soldiers with the necessary skills to drive innovation within the Bundeswehr. To this end, the center offers a training program for intrapreneurs, among other things.

On the other hand, the center will support ongoing projects - ideas can be supervised by the CIHBw as innovation projects. In this context, the soldiers receive mentoring, coaching, placement in the networks of the Bundeswehr and the start-up scene or communicative support.

The center will also have a creative impact in order to expand the ecosystem for intrapreneurship already established by the CIHBw within the Bundeswehr. Be it through ideas competitions or by creating space for intrapreneurs - so that they can realize their ideas.

The CIHBw understands the term "intrapreneurship" (or, more specifically, "Bundeswehr intrapreneurship") to mean a new method of innovation management in the armed forces that enables and supports innovative people to drive their ideas forward on their own initiative. In this way, Bundeswehr Intrapreneurship contributes to the development of a culture of innovation in the armed forces.

A Bundeswehr intrapreneur is therefore a person employed by the armed forces with an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to apply innovation methods to proactively drive forward their own ideas.

In public administration, the CIHBw, the innovation unit of the Federal Ministry of Defense based at BWI GmbH, was the initiator of the first ever project in this area.
